Embedded forms
Put your form on your own website
Paste one snippet and your form lives on your own site, inline, as a popup or a slider. Or print it as a QR code for posters, tables and slides. Free on every plan.
Free forever, with unlimited responses. No credit card.
A form is most likely to be filled in where people already are. Sending them to another site loses some of them on the way, and a form that sits inside your own page looks like part of it. hootform gives every published form a snippet you can paste into any website, and a QR code for everywhere a link can't go.
How it works in hootform
- Publish the form and choose Share. The Embed tab offers four ways to show it: in the page, as a popup, as a slider from the side, or filling the whole window. See embedding.
- Copy the snippet. It's a
data-hootformelement and one script tag. The script is needed once per page, however many forms the page has, and the button that opens a popup can be any button or link of your own. - Paste it into your site. Website builders that only take an
<iframe>get a plain one instead, with a tick box.
It behaves like the rest of your page
An embedded form keeps everything it does on its own page: logic, answer recall, file uploads,
follow-ups and saving progress as people go. An ending that redirects moves your whole page, not
just the frame, and a password-protected form asks for its password inside the frame. Your page
hears about it when someone finishes, through a hootform:complete event, so you can show your
own message or record a conversion.
Know where every response came from
Values for hidden fields can be set on the embed itself, or passed through from your page's own link, so a page opened from an advert records which advert it was.
A QR code for paper and screens
The QR code tab draws the form's link as a code to print or download as a PNG or SVG. Type a value into a hidden field there and every response from that code records it: one code for the poster, another for the flyer. See printing a QR code.

Questions people ask
Is embedding free?
Yes, on every plan, with unlimited responses. Premium removes the "Powered by hootform" badge from the form, embedded or not.
Does an embedded form work on Squarespace, Wix, Webflow or WordPress?
Anywhere you can add HTML. Where a site builder doesn't allow scripts, use the plain iframe option. A popup or slider needs the script.
Will respondents lose their answers if they leave the page?
Not usually: answers are saved as they're given. In browsers that block cookies inside frames from other sites, such as Safari, progress lasts as long as the page stays open.
Can I open the form from my own code?
Yes. The script adds hootform.open, hootform.close and hootform.load to the page. See
embedding.
