Live: Quote request form template — nothing is saved

The fastest way to make a form shorter is to stop asking people questions that don't apply to them. Conditional logic does that. Each answer decides what comes next, so a detractor is asked what to fix and a promoter is asked what to keep, and neither sees the other's question.

Try it: a form that branches

The quote form beside this page asks what you'd like cleaned. Pick Office cleaning and it skips the bedroom and bathroom questions and asks how big the office is instead. Pick Regular home cleaning and it asks how often you'd like a visit, a question a one-off clean never sees. Three paths through one form, and each person only sees theirs.

Skip logic

A rule on a question says where to go once it's answered. Add one, choose whether all or any of its conditions must match, and set the conditions: an answer is, isn't, contains, is above or below a value, or was left blank. When no rule matches, the form simply carries on to the next question, so you only write rules for the exceptions. See logic.

Branching on anything

Conditions can check the question just answered, any earlier one, or a hidden field from the form's link. Every question type can drive a rule: a choice, a rating, a number, a date, a yes or no, or text that contains a word. So an ad for one product can send people down that product's path before they've answered anything.

Answer recall

Earlier answers can appear in later questions, descriptions and endings: "Thanks, Jane. What brought you to us?" A recalled answer only ever comes from the path the respondent took, so nobody sees an answer from a branch they skipped. See answer recall.

Multiple endings

A form can finish on up to 10 endings, and a rule can jump straight to any of them. Each ending has its own words, and can redirect to a page of your own, such as a booking page for qualified leads and a thank-you page for everyone else.

Routing by score

Rules can also check a number the form works out as people answer: a quiz score, a lead score or an order total. "Score is at least 8" can have an ending of its own. See scores and calculations, or the quiz maker for a scored quiz you can try.

See every path at once

The Logic tab draws every question as a box and every jump as an arrow, so you can check each path before you publish. Rules only ever jump forward, which guarantees that every path reaches an end. If a rule breaks while you edit, say because you deleted the question it jumps to, the builder flags it and won't publish until it's fixed. The live form keeps working meanwhile.

Questions people ask

Is conditional logic free?

Yes. Logic rules, answer recall, several endings, redirects, scores and the logic map are all on the free plan.

What's the difference between skip logic and branching?

They're the same rules. Skip logic is a rule that jumps past questions that don't apply. Branching is several rules that send different people down different paths. hootform does both with one kind of rule.

Can logic send people to different pages at the end?

Yes. Give an ending a redirect link, and people who reach it are sent there. Answers can be passed along in the link.

Can a form go back to an earlier question?

Rules jump forward only, which is what guarantees every path ends. Respondents can still go back themselves with the up arrow, and their path updates if they change an answer.

How do I test my logic?

Open the Logic tab to see every path as a map. Then open the published form and walk each branch yourself, and delete those test responses afterwards.
