Why these questions

Analytics tell you where visitors went. They can't tell you what they were looking for, or whether they found it. This short survey asks exactly that, and it fits in a slider on the corner of any page.

It opens with what brought them here today: finding out what you do, comparing prices, looking for help, or buying something. That one answer puts everything else in context. A visitor comparing prices who couldn't find what they wanted is a lost sale. A visitor looking for help is a support ticket on its way.

Did you find what you were looking for? is the heart of it. A yes skips ahead, through logic. A no is asked what they were looking for, and those answers are a to-do list for your content: pages to fix, and pages you haven't written yet.

Then come how easy the site was to use, from 1 to 5, an optional one thing you'd change, and an optional email for a reply.

The template records page as a hidden field. When you embed it, put the page's own address in the link. Every answer then arrives tagged with the page it's about, so feedback on your pricing page doesn't get mixed up with feedback on your blog.

Keeping it light: show it as a slider or a popup rather than inline, and only on the pages you're working on. There's no welcome screen: the first question is the invitation.

How the logic works

Each rule is checked once its question is answered, and the first one that matches decides where the respondent goes next. How logic works

  • After “Did you find what you were looking for?”: if the answer is Yes, jump to “How easy was the site to use?”.

Questions people ask

How do I add a feedback survey to my website?

Open the form, choose Share, then Embed, and pick a slider or a popup. Paste the snippet into your site's HTML. It works on any site that lets you add HTML, including most site builders.

Can I see which page the feedback came from?

Yes. Add ?page= with the page's address to the link in the embed snippet. It's stored with each response as a hidden field, in its own column.

Will it slow my site down?

The embed loader is one small script, and the form itself loads in a frame, only when it's shown.

What should I do with "didn't find it" answers?

Read them first. Each one names something a visitor expected to find on your site and couldn't. Group them, then fix the page or write the one that's missing.
