Why these questions

"Add PDF export" is a feature request. "I send my manager a report every Friday and have to screenshot it" is a problem you can solve, maybe better than with a PDF. This form is built to get the second kind of answer.

It asks what they'd like it to do in a single line, because people arrive with a solution in mind, and letting them say it first clears the way. Then comes the question that matters: what are you trying to get done when you need it?, with a nudge to describe the last time it came up. On Premium, a vague answer gets one follow-up, guided to ask for the task and what they do instead today.

How do you handle it today? comes next: by hand, with another tool, by asking someone, or not at all. That's your best signal of urgency. A painful manual workaround is a stronger case than "I just don't do it". How much would it matter? puts a number on it from "nice to have" to "I need it", and which part of the product helps you route the request.

Last is an optional email to hear when it ships. Closing the loop is what makes people bother to send the next request.

The template also records plan and user_id as hidden fields. Pass them in the link from inside your app, and you can weigh requests by who's asking without asking them.

Reading the answers: sort the CSV export by impact, or on Premium let AI insights group the free-text answers into themes, with quotes you can check against the real answers.

Questions people ask

Why ask for the problem instead of just the feature?

Because the problem tells you what to build, and the feature request only tells you one person's guess. Several requests for different features often turn out to share one underlying problem.

Can I put the feature request form inside my app?

Yes. Embed it as a popup or a slider behind a "Suggest a feature" button, and add the user's id and plan to its link.

How do I let people know their feature shipped?

The last question asks for an email, only if they'd like to hear. Export the responses for a feature when it ships and email the people who asked.

Can I stop duplicate requests?

Exact repeats of the same answers are flagged as duplicates in the responses table. Similar requests worded differently are what AI insights groups together, on Premium.
