Question types
Long text
A box for paragraphs, for feedback, stories, descriptions and anything that needs more than a line.
Use long text when you want people to explain: "What would make you recommend us?", "Describe the problem you're trying to solve".
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Placeholder | Grey text in the empty box. "Type your answer…" if you leave it blank. |
| Character limit | The most a respondent can type. Without one, answers can be up to 10,000 characters. |
What respondents see
A box a few lines tall that scrolls for longer answers. Shift + Enter starts a new line; Enter on its own moves on. If there's a character limit, a counter shows how many are left.
The answer
Stored as typed, line breaks included, with spaces trimmed from either end.
- CSV and emails: the text, with its line breaks.
- Webhooks:
"value": "The setup took…". - Insights: counts how many people answered. AI insights summarizes what they said and pulls out quotes, and response summaries help with long answers.
Long text isn't encrypted, so you can search and read it freely.
In logic
is, is not, contains, doesn't contain, is answered, is not answered. Comparisons ignore upper and lower case. "Contains" is the useful one here, such as sending anyone who mentions "price" to a question about pricing.
Dig deeper
Long text is where follow-up questions shine: when an answer is thin, AI asks a specific follow-up about what the respondent said, and moves on straight away when the answer is already useful.
