Question types
Question group
Several questions asked together on one screen, under a heading of their own, with one button.
A question group shows a few related questions at once instead of one at a time: the details of a trip, three quick facts about a company, a name beside a date of birth. The respondent answers them together and moves on with one button.
Adding a group
Choose Question group in Add question. The group arrives with one blank question in it, and its heading selected.
- Add a question to it: select the group, or any question in it, and use Add question. With the group selected, the new question goes at the end of the group; with one of its questions selected, right after that question.
- Move a question in or out: pick a group in the question's Group setting (it goes to the end of that group), or Not in a group to take it out. You can also drag it: drop it on one of the group's questions, or on the lower half of the group's heading, to put it in; drop it on a question outside the group, or above the heading, to take it out.
- Move the whole group: drag its heading, or use Move up and Move down on it. Its questions come with it.
- Duplicate on the heading copies the whole group. Delete on the heading removes only the heading: its questions stay, as questions of their own.
In the question list, a group's questions are indented under its heading. Selecting any of them shows the whole screen, as respondents will see it.
A group can hold any type of question, including a statement for a line of instructions between them, but not another group. A group needs at least one question before you can publish.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Button label | The button under the group. "OK" if you leave it blank, or "Submit" when the group is the last step. |
The heading has a title, an optional description and a picture or video, like any question. Each question in the group keeps its own settings, including Required.
What respondents see
The group's title and description, then each question with its own title, and one button. The group counts as one step in the progress bar and in "Question N of M", however many questions it holds.
If something needs fixing, every problem is shown under its own question, and what they typed stays in place. Answers that were fine are kept even if another question in the group needs fixing.
On a form with All questions on one page, a group's heading is a heading on the page, between its questions and the ones before.
The answer
The heading stores nothing. Each question in the group is stored, exported and summarised in Insights exactly as it would be on its own screen.
In logic
A group's questions are answered together, so their logic runs together, once the whole group is answered:
- A question in a group can check any other question in the same group.
- Its rules can only jump past the group (or to an ending), never to another question inside it.
- The rules of the group's questions are checked in order, and the first one that matches decides where the respondent goes.
- Another question's rule can jump to the group, but not into the middle of it.
The heading itself has no rules: put them on the questions in the group.
Questions in a group can recall answers from before the group, but not from other questions in it, since they're all on screen at once. Follow-up questions don't run inside a group.
