Answer recall
Quote a respondent's earlier answers, or a hidden field, in later question titles, descriptions and endings.
Answer recall puts a respondent's own words back in front of them: "Nice to meet you, Sam. What does Acme do?" It makes a long form feel like a conversation, and it's free on every plan.
Adding an answer to a question
- Click into a question's title or description in the preview.
- Place the cursor where the answer should go.
- Choose Insert answer and pick a question, a hidden field, or a variable such as a score.
The builder inserts a token such as {{answer:q_name}} and shows, under the text, how it reads: Nice to meet you, [What's your name?]. Respondents see their answer in its place.
Where recall works
| Place | Can recall |
|---|---|
| Question titles and descriptions | Answers to earlier questions, and hidden fields |
| A follow-up's first question | This question's answer and earlier ones |
| Endings | Any question in the form, and hidden fields |
| An ending's redirect link | The same, encoded for use in a link. See Endings |
| The welcome screen | Nothing: nobody has answered anything yet |
On a form with All questions on one page, a title that recalls an answer updates as the respondent types it.
A question can only quote questions that come before it, since a later one hasn't been asked yet. The builder flags a token that breaks this, and the form can't be published until it's fixed.
How answers read
- Text, numbers, email addresses and links appear as given.
- Choices appear as their label; several choices are joined with commas.
- Yes / No appears as "Yes" or "No".
- A variable appears as its value where the text is shown, with up to two decimals:
{{var:score}}reads "7". See scores and calculations. - Dates and times appear in a fixed format:
2026-09-24,14:30, and a range as2026-09-24 to 2026-09-28. - A question the respondent skipped, or never reached because of logic, appears as nothing. Recall answers to required questions on every path where you can, or write the sentence so it still reads well without the answer.
Recall and editing
If you delete a question, tokens that recalled it are removed. Wherever the dashboard shows a question title, including the responses table, CSV headers, emails and webhooks, tokens appear as [Question title] rather than as code.
