Ranking

Put a list of options in order of preference, best first.

"Rank these features by how much you'd use them." A ranking shows what matters most, where a multiple choice question would only show what matters at all.

Settings

Setting What it does
Choices The options to put in order. At least two, and every choice needs a label before publishing.

Keep the list short: five to seven options is plenty. Ordering twenty is tiring, and the bottom half of the order tells you little.

What respondents see

The options as a numbered list, with up and down arrows on each one. A note says "Order them with the arrows, best first". The list starts in the order you wrote it, and they press OK when they're happy with the order.

The answer

Stored as the full list of choice ids, best first. The order is the answer.

  • CSV, emails and the responses table: the labels, numbered: 1. Reports, 2. Integrations, 3. Mobile app.
  • Webhooks: value is the list of choice ids in order; text is the numbered labels.
  • Insights (Premium): each option's average position, listed best first.

In logic

is answered and is not answered only. Every option appears in every ranking, so "is" can't single one out.

If the question is optional

A respondent who doesn't want to rank can press OK without moving anything, which records the list in its starting order. If that would muddy your results, make the question required and put the options in a neutral order, such as alphabetical.
