File upload
Let respondents attach files such as a CV, photos or documents, up to 10 per question.
For job applications, claims, support requests, portfolios: anything where you need a file, not a description of one.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| How many files | From 1 (the default) up to 10. |
| What to accept | Any file, Images (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, HEIC and other image types) or Documents (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, text, CSV and RTF). |
| Largest file (MB) | The size limit per file, up to your plan's limit. 10 MB if you leave it blank. |
What respondents see
A Choose a file box (Choose files when more than one is allowed), with a hint underneath such as "Documents, under 10 MB". The files upload when they press OK. A file that's the wrong kind or too large is refused with a message saying why.
If they come back to the question later, the files they attached are listed, with Choose a different file to replace them and Remove to clear them. Going back and continuing without choosing anything new keeps the files they already attached.
The answer
The file names, with the files themselves stored securely by hootform.
- Responses: the file names, which you can download from the response drawer.
- CSV, emails and the responses table: the file names.
- Webhooks:
textis the file names;valueis a list ofupload id:file nameentries. Download the files from the dashboard. - Encryption: when the form is encrypted, the files and their names are encrypted too. Files are never sent to an AI model.
Files are always downloaded, never opened in the browser, since you can't know what a stranger's file contains. Scan anything unexpected before opening it.
Deleting a response, or the form, deletes its files. Files attached by someone who never completed their first answer are cleared away after a day.
In logic
is answered and is not answered only.
