Footer links

Put your privacy policy, terms and other links under every screen of a form.

Footer links sit along the bottom of every screen of a form: the welcome screen, every question and follow-up, the review screen, the ending, and a single-page form. Use them for the pages respondents may want to read before they answer, such as your privacy policy, terms and conditions, or how to make a GDPR request.

Open Settings → Footer links in the form and choose Add link. Each link has:

Field What to put in it
Label The words respondents see, such as "Privacy policy". Keep it short.
Link A web page starting with https://, or an email address starting with mailto:, such as mailto:[email protected].

Links show in the order they're listed. Use Move up and Move down to change it, and the × button to remove one. On the free plan, put the links that matter most first.

Footer links are published with the form, so choose Publish changes for new links to appear. A form won't publish while a link has no label, or a link that isn't https:// or mailto:.

What respondents see

The links sit between the Powered by hootform badge and the up and down buttons, in small text. On a phone they move to a row of their own under the buttons.

A web page opens in a new tab, so respondents don't lose their place in the form. An email link opens their mail app.

Things to know

  • Labels can be translated like the rest of the form. The links themselves are the same in every language.
  • Footer links don't appear on the password page, or on messages such as "This form is closed".
  • To ask respondents to agree to your terms, add a consent question instead. A footer link is something to read, not something they agree to.
