Password-protected forms
Forms only the right people can open
Add a password, and only people who know it can see the form. Close it on a date or after a set number of responses. Both are free on every plan.
Free forever, with unlimited responses. No credit card.
Some forms are for everyone, and some are for a room full of people you've already met: a workshop's attendees, a team, a class, a board. A password keeps a form's link from working for anyone who stumbles on it.
How it works in hootform
- Set a password. Open the form's settings and add one. It applies straight away, with no republishing. See access and closing.
- Share the link and the password. Respondents see a password screen first. Once they've entered it, they're not asked again on that device, even if they leave and come back.
- Change it to lock everyone out. Changing the password signs out everyone who entered the old one. Remove it to open the form to anyone with the link.
Close it when you're done
Every form can close itself: at a date and time, with the time zone named, or after a number of completed responses, which suits a limited number of places. A closed form tells visitors it's no longer accepting responses, and nothing is deleted. Change or remove the condition to reopen it.
Kept out of search
A password-protected form is always marked for search engines not to index, whatever its other settings, since there's nothing behind the password page to show them.

Questions people ask
Is password protection free?
Yes, on every plan, along with closing a form by date or by number of responses.
Do respondents need an account?
No. They only need the password. Nobody signs in.
Can each person have their own password?
Not today. A form has one password. To tell respondents apart, give each of them a link with a hidden field that identifies them.
Does a password work when the form is embedded?
Yes. An embedded form asks for the password inside the frame, and remembers it for as long as the page is open.
