Most NPS tools charge per response or per seat, which is backwards: the more customers you ask, the more useful the score is. hootform has no response limit on any plan, so you can survey your whole customer base every quarter.
How it works in hootform
- Start from the NPS template. The NPS survey template asks the 0–10 question on its own, first, labelled at both ends. See scale questions.
- Ask each group its own question. Logic sends detractors to "what should we improve?", passives to "what would have made it a 10?" and promoters to "what do you enjoy?". Add the customer's id to the link as a hidden field to know who's who.
- Read the results. Export the scores to CSV, or paste them into the free NPS calculator. On Premium, Insights counts each score, and AI insights groups the comments into themes with quotes you can check.
Built for the question that follows the score
The score tells you where you stand. The comment tells you why. That's why the template asks the 0–10 question alone and first, then one short follow-up tailored to the answer, and then gets out of the way. It takes about a minute, and every answer is saved as it's given, so a customer who gives a score and closes the tab still counts.
Premium, when you want more
On Premium, a low score can get an AI follow-up before the form moves on, written by you or by AI. It's one more question, only for the people whose answers you most need to understand.

Is there a free NPS survey tool?

How do I calculate my NPS from the responses?
Take the percentage of 9s and 10s and subtract the percentage of 0s to 6s. The NPS calculator does it from counts or pasted scores.
Can I send the NPS survey inside my app?
Yes. Embed it as a popup or a slider, with the user's id in the link.
How is this different from a CSAT survey?
NPS asks about loyalty overall. CSAT asks about one interaction. There's a free CSAT template too.
