How they differ
Why people compare hootform and Fillout
Fillout is a capable form builder with a generous free plan: unlimited seats, logic, file uploads and a long list of extras. The difference that matters most as you grow is what's metered. When we checked, each Fillout plan included a set number of responses a month, and the plan you need goes up as your forms get busier.
hootform doesn't meter responses on any plan. The free plan collects every response, and Premium is $19 a month for the whole organization. It adds AI, deeper Insights and your own branding, never the right to collect more.
A different kind of form
Fillout can put several questions on a page. hootform asks one question at a time by default, which suits surveys and sign-ups filled in on a phone, and can show a whole form on one page when that suits better. Every answer is saved as it's given, so you see exactly where people stop, and respondents can come back and finish.
- Encryption at rest per form, on by default, for identifying answers and files.
- AI follow-ups and AI insights on Premium.
- Logic on any question or hidden field, with several endings and a map of every path.
What stays the same
Both products put logic, hidden fields, answer recall and file uploads on the free plan, and both let people resume a form they started. Both work on any device, with no account for respondents. The difference is how the form is filled in, one question at a time, and what you pay as it gets busier.
A worked example
A survey collects about 3,000 responses a month, with the badge removed. On Fillout, 3,000 is past the Starter plan's monthly allowance, and removing the branding takes the Pro plan. On hootform it's Premium, at $19 a month. With the badge left on, hootform's free plan would collect all 3,000.
Switching from Fillout
There's no importer yet, so rebuild each form, often from a template. Most question types have direct equivalents, including file uploads, signatures, rankings and matrices. Payment and scheduling fields don't: hootform doesn't take payments or book meetings yet.

- You need payments, scheduling, PDF generation or calculated scores on the free plan.
