How they differ

Why people compare hootform and Paperform

Paperform builds forms like pages: text, pictures and questions laid out together, with strong support for payments, bookings and calculations. It's a good fit for order forms and quotes that take money. When we checked, its free plan allowed only a handful of submissions a month, and unlimited submissions started with a paid plan.

hootform takes a different path. The free plan collects every response, with no monthly limit, and every form asks one question at a time, which suits surveys, applications and sign-ups on a phone. Premium is $19 a month for the whole organization.

What you get with hootform

  • Unlimited responses on every plan.
  • Answers saved as they're given, so you see where people drop off and respondents can resume.
  • Encryption at rest per form, on by default, for identifying answers and files. See encryption.
  • AI follow-ups and AI insights on Premium.
  • Logic and several endings, with a map of every path.

Page or conversation

Paperform suits forms that read like a document: a menu with an order form, or a product page with a checkout. hootform suits forms that read like a conversation, such as surveys, applications, sign-ups and feedback, where one question at a time keeps people going. If your form is mostly questions, try it both ways and compare the completion rates.

A worked example

A course collects 200 evaluations a month. On Paperform's free plan, most would be past the monthly limit, so it's a paid plan. On hootform's free plan, all 200 are collected, with the badge. Removing the badge takes Premium, at $19 a month.

Switching from Paperform

There's no importer yet, so rebuild each form from a template or from scratch. Most question types have direct equivalents. Payment, product and booking fields don't: hootform doesn't take payments yet, so keep those forms on Paperform if they take money.

Where Paperform fits better

  • You're building order forms, bookings or quotes that take payment inside the form.
  • You like designing a form as a page, with text and pictures around the questions.
